Connecting RemotePass to ChatGPT lets you query your HR and payroll data directly inside ChatGPT using natural language. This guide walks you through the setup.

Adding a custom MCP connector in ChatGPT requires Developer mode to be turned on. This is a ChatGPT setting, not a RemotePass requirement.

ChatGPT Business and Enterprise: Developer mode is enabled at the workspace level by an admin or owner, under Workspace settings → Permissions and Roles → Connected Data. Once enabled, members can access it from their own Settings → Apps.

In ChatGPT, go to Settings → Apps.

Turn on the Developer mode toggle. ChatGPT will show a risk notice — this is standard for any custom connector.

Go to Settings → Apps and click Create app.

Under Name, enter "RemotePass". Icon and description are optional.

Under Connection, select Server URL and paste the MCP server URL provided by RemotePass.

Under Authentication, select OAuth.

Open Advanced OAuth settings. Under Registration method, select User-Defined OAuth Client, then paste your OAuth Client ID and OAuth Client Secret (both provided by Support) into the fields shown.

Read the "Custom MCP servers introduce risk" notice, check I understand and want to continue.

2. Open Advanced OAuth settings. Under Registration method, select User-Defined OAuth Client, then paste your OAuth Client ID and OAuth Client Secret (both provided by Support) into the fields shown.
3. Read the "Custom MCP servers introduce risk" notice, check I understand and want to continue.
4. Click Create.

If you see a "CIMD is unavailable" message under Advanced OAuth settings, you can ignore it. It just means the server doesn't support that particular discovery method. Using your own OAuth credentials works regardless.

Each user needs to connect their own RemotePass account:

From Settings → Apps, select RemotePass and click Sign in with RemotePass MCP.

You will be redirected to RemotePass — sign in with your RemotePass credentials and approve the permissions listed.

You will be redirected back to ChatGPT. RemotePass will show as connected, with a DEV label next to its name. This just reflects that Developer mode is on and does not affect what the connector can do.

Start a chat and select RemotePass from your available apps to give ChatGPT access to your RemotePass data for that conversation.

Your RemotePass role applies to everything the AI assistant can access. An Admin can query company-wide data. An Accountant sees what their role permits. A Team Lead sees their team's data.
